Andrew and Laurel Quady, both with good jobs but hectic lives in Southern California, sought peace and quiet and decided to embark on a new adventure in the mid 1970s. They moved to Madera, further north in California, to grow wine. In the early 1980s, Andrew discovered a vineyard with unused Orange Muscat grapes near the town of Reedley, just west of
