The method was invented by Parker Rust Proof Co. founded by CW and WC Parker in 1941 and used extensively during World War II in the manufacture of weapons. The method was based on discoveries made by William Alexander Ross and Thomas Watts Coslett made in 1907, which were refined throughout the 1910s
