They were excavated around the ancient trading city of Djenné (which is near Timbuktu) in the country of Mali

Opaque Pink Snake-Beads Glass Beads hand carved in China22" strand of large opaque pink snake beads 9mm diameter x 5mm inter locking glass "snake" beads. Czech made from the 1930s and traded in Africa. These beads are made to imitate traditional snake vertebra beads. Some beads are chipped (see photos). Each strand has pink beads with a few blue mixed in.
